The report is based on the leak of data on users, contracts and documents, which indicates the sale of this data. Potential Jumpshot customers are reportedly Google, Yelp, Microsoft, McKinsey, Pepsi, Sephora, Home Depot, Condé Nast, and Intuit.
In the past, Avast had a browser extension that warned users of suspicious websites. It also collected user data. Mozilla, Google, and Opera has removed Avast extensions from their browsers .
Nevertheless, Avast can obtain user data using antivirus software without the use of a browser extension.
The evidence uncovered by the Motherboard platform shows that data gathering continues even after plugins have been eliminated.
One of Jumpshot products is a "All Clicks Feed" data package which includes depth information about user clicks on websites. It's advertised like this on Twitter,Each and every search ,Any click, Everyone buy Everywhere.
According to PCMag, this service is subscribed to by the New York-based marketing company Omnicom Media Group. In 2019, it paid Jumpshot around $2,075,000 for data access.
Later after Avast has eventually apologised and shut down its marketing analytics subsidiary Jumpshot with immediate effect after trying to defend its data collection and sharing practices.
Yet obviously, as far as the Czech authorities are concerned, that is not the end of the matter.
The Czech Data Protection Authority has now conducted an investigation into Avast's selling of browser history to 3rd party companies. It's early but the DPA are taking things really seriously.
